Day 1 Kota Kinabalu |
|
Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to hotel. Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, was used to be called Jesselton, then, the
capital of British’s North Borneo Chartered Company. While most main buildings were destroyed during the Second World War,
the city has a few unique landmarks. The Sabah Foundation Building is one of the few single-supports building in the world. A
visit to the Sabah Museum and Heritage Village provides a brief look at the historical and cultural background of the regions
(closed on Fridays). Then, drive up Signal Hill for a bird’s eye view of the city’s commercial centre and the offshore islands of the
Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

Day 2 Kinabalu National Park |
|
After 2-hour north-eastward drive is Kinabalu National Park, a world heritage site. This is home to giant ferns, various
Rhododendrons and most of all, to the majestic Mount Kinabalu. Experience a guided jungle walk in the forest approximately
2,000m above sea level and a visit to the Mountain Garden. Overnight at Hyatt Regency in Kota Kinabalu, or similar.

Day 3 Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan-Sepilok-Sukau |
|
An early morning flight takes you to the historic town of Sandakan where upon arrival; you are transferred to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to witness rehabilitation and rainforest conservation efforts by the State Wildlife Department. Lunch is
a simple affair at the Centre’s cafeteria before a two-hour drive to the Sukau River. Check in at the Discovery River Lodge and
enjoy a leisure afternoon before embarking on an upriver boat-ride to appreciate the many species of Borneo rainforest flora and
fauna. Catch the mischievous Proboscis monkeys frolic. Settle down for dinner and an overnight stay at Discovery River Lodge.

Day 4 Sukau-Gomantong-Sandakan City-Kota Kinabalu |
|
Wake up to the raucous calls of birds, insects and animals and greet a crisp, clean morning with a hearty breakfast. En route to
Sandakan town, visit the famous birds’ nests caves at Gomantong. Have lunch in Sandakan then tour the historic town prior to
your flight departure for Kota Kinabalu.
Overnight at Hyatt Regency in Kota Kinabalu, or similar.

Day 5 Kota Kinabalu-Miri-Niah Caves |
|
Transfer to airport for an early flight to Miri. Arrive Miri and proceed on to Niah National Park. Take the longboat at Pangkalan
Lobang and cross the river. Visit the Niah Museum before heading for the Great Cave and Painted Caves. You may see the
controlled harvesting of bird's nest. Before returning to Miri, stopover at an Iban longhouse.
Overnight at Miri Marriot Resort & Spa in Miri, or similar.

Day 6 Miri-Kuching |
|
Transfer to the airport for flight to Kuching. Arrive in Kuching and transfer to the hotel. While named as the city of cats, Kuching
is quite devoid of them. The many remaining English colonial buildings such as the Astana, Fort Margherita, the Court House and
the Post Office, are worth sightseeing. Visit the State Mosque and the Sarawak Museum with its collection of artefacts and
Chinese porcelain.
Overnight at Grand Margherita Hotel (formerly known as Holiday Inn Kuching) or Hilton Hotel in Kuching, or similar.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch.

Day 7 Kuching-Iban Longhouse |
|
Early start for the forest. Today a visit to the descendants of the headhunters for which Borneo is infamous. At Serian, take time to
see the local market and you may like to buy some gifts for the tribal chief. Then, a short stop at a Pepper Garden to see how
pepper is processed. Take a longboat to the longhouse. Rest or join the natives in their daily chores such as basket or mat weaving,
mending fishing nets, feeding livestock or fishing. In the evening join in the merry making of the Ibans as you try their rice wine
and join in their traditional War Dance; the Ngajat.
Overnight at a basic guesthouse.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 8 Iban Longhouse-Damai Beach |
|
During an early jungle walk, your Iban guide may show you how to use the blowpipe. Late morning, return to Kuching and
proceed on to Damai Beach. The day is at leisure.
Overnight at Damai Beach Resort (formerly known as Holiday Inn Damai Beach), or similar.
Meals: Breakfast.

Day 9 Damai Beach |
|
Whole day at leisure. You have an option of visiting the Sarawak Cultural Village adjacent to the hotel. Otherwise, you might like
to rest and relax by the sea.
Overnight at Damai Beach Resort (formerly known as Holiday Inn Damai Beach), or similar.
Meals: Breakfast.

Day 10 Damai-Kuching Airport |
|
Free at leisure until your transfer out for your onward flight.
What to bring:
Insect repellent, raincoat, sun block, sun hat, comfortable walking shoes, torch light, binoculars, Cotton shirts / pants and personal
items.
What to bring for Iban Longhouse trips:
Personal toiletries, swim wear, raincoat/umbrella, torchlight and some gift for the people in the longhouse such as cigarettes for
the chief and sweets for the children. Wear good walking shoes and light clothing.
