While most main buildings were destroyed during the Second World War, the city has a few unique landmarks. The Sabah Foundation Building is one of the few single-supports building in the world. A visit to the Sabah Museum and Heritage Village provides a brief look at the historical and cultural background of the regions (closed on Fridays). Then, drive up Signal Hill for a bird’s eye view of the city’s commercial centre and the offshore islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.
Overnight at Hyatt Regency in Kota Kinabalu, or similar.

Day 2 Kinabalu National Park

After 2-hour north-eastward drive is Kinabalu National Park, a world heritage site. This is home to giant ferns, various Rhododendrons and most of all, to the majestic Mount Kinabalu. Experience a guided jungle walk in the forest approximately 2,000m above sea level and a visit to the Mountain Garden. Overnight at Hyatt Regency in Kota Kinabalu, or similar.

Check in at the Discovery River Lodge and enjoy a leisure afternoon before embarking on an upriver boat-ride to appreciate the many species of Borneo rainforest flora and fauna. Catch the mischievous Proboscis monkeys frolic. Settle down for dinner and an overnight stay at Discovery River Lodge.
