Pick up your THRIFTY MEDIUM SEDAN rental car either at the Melbourne Airport Depot or Melbourne City Depot and commence drive to Portsea. Drive south via the bayside suburbs of Melbourne , join the Nepean Highway to Frankston and on to the Mornington Peninsula where you overnight at COMFORT INN BAYVIEW. SORRENTO / PORTSEA Attractions in Sorrento include the Marine Aquarium on St Albans Way where visitors can see the seals being fed, or take a cruise on Port Phillip Bay and swim with dolphins and seals. Sorrento Beach , along the Nepean Highway , is ideal for swimming in the safe waters while the back beach with its tall imposing cliffs, larges waves and strong currents, is favoured by surfers.

Depart Rosebud and travel to Cranbourne where you join the South Gippsland Highway to Phillip Island passing through the town of Koo-wee-rup . At the town of San Remo , you leave the mainland and travel across a bridge to Phillip Island.Continue to the township of Cowes, where you overnight at THE CONTINENTAL PHILLIP ISLAND . This drive is approximately 150km.
PHILLIP ISLAND is the home of the Fairy Penguins. At dusk, they emerge from the surf, completely ignoring the thousands of curious onlookers. The island has a major wildlife reserve where you can see koalas, fur seals, pelicans, mutton-birds and various other sea birds. At the Australian Dairy Centre, Phillip Island , there is a museum explaining the history of the dairying industry, and a cheese factory with a sales section and tastings.
The Penguin Reserve is open from 10am daily ( it is open from 2pm ).
The cost is approximately AUD15.00 per person, which includes entrance to the Visitor Centre Display and the Penguin Parade.
There is no shelter on the beach, so please dress appropriately.

Depart Phillip Island via the Bass Highway to Koo-wee-rup where you continue to Pakenham, Gembrook and Launching Place where you turn left onto the Warburton Highway . Travel through the towns of Woon Yollock and Coldstream to arrive at Yarra Glen and your overnight accommodation at QUALITY YARRA GLEN GRAND . This drive is approximately 167 kms.
YARRA GLEN is situated in the Yarra Valley . The valley is one of Australia 's premier wine producing areas, so spend some time inspecting and sampling. A visit to Healesville Sanctuary is also recommended. |
